John the apostle wrote how, “Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe. The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your son lives. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Your son lives. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him”, and in chapter four and verse fifty three of his book, John shared how the nobleman “knew that it was the same hour … Jesus said” where we read:
So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him,
Your son lives: and himself believed, and his whole house.
The verse reads, “So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, ...”. John began with the words, “So the father knew” or “therefore, wherefore and then the progenitor and immediate male ancestor of the son who was the nobleman understood, perceived and discerned” “that it was at the same hour” which means “that the healing of the nobleman's son was at the specific time”, “in the which Jesus said unto him” or “that Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the nobleman”. John shared how the “nobleman” understood that his son was “healed” at the exact time Jesus said the following.
The verse continues, “... Your son lives: and himself believed, and his whole house.” John added the words, “your son lives” which means “your, the nobleman's male offspring and progeny, is alive and continues living”, “and himself believed” or “and the nobleman his own self trusted, had confidence in and was persuaded”, “and his whole house” which means “and everyone within the nobleman's household or family”. John shared how Jesus told the nobleman his son was alive, and because the nobleman found what Jesus said to be true, he and his entire family “trusted in” Him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus performed another miracle. This time, He did so at a distance, and only His word was necessary to bring healing to the nobleman's son. God wants people to “believe” in His Son Jesus, and Jesus demonstrated over and over again through miracles that He is indeed the “Christ and Messiah” who was sent to save the world. Anyone who carefully considers all Jesus did while He was on the earth should put their faith and trust in Him, and when they do, God will forgive their errors and wrongs and grant them eternal life with Him in Heaven.
Next time John shares how, “this is again the second miracle that Jesus did”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
