John the apostle wrote how Jesus met a “Samaritan woman” at a well located in Sychar. As they conversed the woman said, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped in this mountain; and you say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when you shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-three of his book, John shared how Jesus said to the woman, “the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth” where we read:
But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.
The verse reads, “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:” John began with the words, “But the hour comes” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the definite and certain time approaches”, “and now is” which means “and at the current and present time exists”, “when the true worshipers” or “while and as soon as the ones who give veracious and sincere adoration and homage” “shall worship the Father” which means “will given adoration and homage to the originator and progenitor God” “in spirit” or “within the efficient source of any power, affection, emotion and desire” “and in truth” which means “and within that which is according to truth, fact and certainty”. John shared how Jesus said the “definite time” was coming and was even present “when” people who are “veracious and truthful” one who give “adoration and homage” to God the “Father” with their “spirits” and with “truth, fact and certainty”.
The verse continues, “for the Father seeks such to worship him.”. John added the words, “for the Father” which means “because, since and on account that the originator and progenitor God” “seeks such” or “aims, strives, requires, demands and craves truthful worshipers” “to worship him” which means “to give adoration and homage to Him, God”. John shared how God the “Father” desires and looks for people to “worship” Him truthfully.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus said the “definite time” for “worshiping God” in not only “coming” but is already here. God is looking for people who will “worship” Him “in spirit” truthfully, and those who are wise will yield their lives to His Son Jesus who gives them access to God. Jesus came to the earth to give “forgiveness” and “eternal life” to everyone who humbles themselves and gives Him the honor and respect He is due. Let all who read these words “worship” God in “spirit and in truth”.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells the woman, “God is a Spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
