The apostle John wrote concerning Jesus how, “then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have you not brought him? The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man. Then answered them the Pharisees, Are you also deceived? Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? But this people who knows not the law are cursed.”, and in chapter seven and verse fifty of his book, John shared about, “Nicodemus” again, where we read:
Nicodemus said unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
The verse reads, “Nicodemus said unto them, ...” John began with the word, “Nicodemus” whose name means “conqueror” and was “a member of the Sanhedrin” “said unto them” which means “uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked” the question found in our next verse. John shared how “Nicodemus” whom Jesus met in John chapter three began to question the other “religious leaders”.
The verse goes on to say, “... (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)” John continued with the words, “(he that came to Jesus” which means “this is the man who arose and appeared to the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “by night” or “at the nighttime”, “being one of them” which means “existing as one of the Pharisees and religious leaders”). John shared how “Nicodemus” was the one who came to Jesus during the nighttime hour (See John 3), and he was a member of the “Pharisees” who were questioning the “officers” about Jesus.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see “Nicodemus” again in the story of Jesus, and this time he is among the “religious leaders” known as the “Pharisees” who were questioning the “officers” about concerning Jesus. We shall see what “Nicodemus” says in our next verse, but suffice it to know “Nicodemus” is interested in Jesus. Jesus wants all people to come to Him and receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they submit themselves to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life in Heaven with His Father God. Those who are wise will carefully consider the question “Nicodemus” asked, and determine for themselves exactly who Jesus is.
Next time John shares how Nicodemus asks, “does our law judge any man, before it hear him?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
