Jesus Born though No Room in the Inn - Luke 2:7

Luke the physician wrote how, “there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered”, and in chapter two and verse seven of his book Luke shares how Mary,“brought forth her firstborn son” even though “there was no room for them in the inn” where we read:

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,

and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The verse reads, “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, ...” Luke began with the words, “and she brought forth” or “and Mary birthed or delivered” “her firstborn son” which means “Mary's first begotten male child”, “and wrapped him” or “and swathed the male child” “in swaddling clothes” which refers to “clothing made of strips”. Luke shared how Mary “delivered” her “first begotten” male child, and “swathed” him in “strips” of cloth.

The verse goes on to say, “... and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke continued with the words, “and laid him” which means “and lean him or reclined the male child” “in a manger” or “in a crib made for fodder”, “because” which means “since and on account that” “there was no room for them” or “there existed no place, location or space for Joseph and Mary” “in the inn” which means “within the lodging place or guest-chamber”. Luke shared how Mary “laid” her male child down in a “crib” which was a like a “small feeding trough”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Mary “birthed” her first male child, swathed him in strips of cloth and lay him down in a “manger” which was used as a feeding trough for animals. This doesn't seem like the place where the “King of Kings” would be born, but God had different ideas for bringing forth His Son into the world. God's plan for the salvation of man was coming together, and when Mary had her son in this “barn-like” setting, He was putting forth His plan to do things according to His own plan and purpose. Each of these details are important to understand the great love God had for people, and when a person believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall receive forgiveness for their sins and everlasting life with God.

Next time Luke shares how, “there were shepherds abiding in the field”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
