Elisabeth Filled with the Holy Ghost - Luke 1:41

Luke the physician wrote how Mary questioned the “angel Gabriel” concerning her being pregnant with the Son of God. She asked, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda. And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth, and in chapter one and verse forty-one of his book Luke shared, “when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb” where we read:

And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary,

the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

The verse reads, “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, ... Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass” or “and it happened and came into being ”,“that, when Elisabeth” which means “even as Elisabeth whose name means oath of God” “heard the salutation” or “was given the faculty of hearing, perceived, understood and discerned the greeting” “of Mary” which means “belonging to Mary whose name means their rebellion”. Luke shared how “Elisabeth heard” Mary's greeting and the following event occurred.

The verse goes on to say, “... the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:” Luke continued with the words, “the babe leaped in her womb” which means “the baby within Elisabeth's belly moved or jumped”; “and Elisabeth” which refers to “the mother of John the Baptist whose name means oath of God” “was filled with the Holy Ghost” which means “was accomplished and occupied with the pure, morally blameless and the religiously and ceremonially consecrated third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son”. Luke shared how the baby within the belly of “Elisabeth” “leaped” inside her, and “Elisabeth” was “filled” with God's Holy Spirit.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn what happened after Mary greeted “Elisabeth”. The baby within Elisabeth's belly “leaped”, and she was filled with God's Holy Spirit. God was involved in this process, and the faithfulness of these women to be “servants” of the Lord led them to be “filled with His Spirit”. God desires to have this type of relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will “fill” them with His “Spirit” and they shall live eternally with the “everlasting” God.

Next time Luke shares how Elisabeth, “spoke out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
