None of Your Kindred Called by that Name - Luke 1:61

Luke the physician wrote how Zacharias and Elisabeth had a son who was promised by the “angel Gabriel”, and “on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John”, and in chapter one and verse sixty-one of his book Luke shared how the people circumcising their son said, “there is none of your kindred that is called by this name” where we read:

And they said unto her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name.

The verse reads, “And they said unto her, ...” Luke began with the words, “and they said” or “and the people who were circumcising Zacharias and Elisabeth's son uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto her” which means “to Elisabeth”. Luke shared how the people circumcising Zacharias and Elisabeth's son proclaimed to her the following words.

The verse continues, “... There is none of your kindred that is called by this name.” Luke added the words, “there is none” which means “there exists not one” “of your kindred” or “belonging to Zacharias or Elisabeth's family or relations collectively” “that is called by this name” which means “who is saluted or bid forth by the name John”. Luke shared how the people who were circumcising Zacharias and Elisabeth's son did not know of any of their family members who was named “John”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how the people circumcising Zacharias and Elisabeth's son were perplexed because they could not think of anyone in their family who was named “John”. This was unusual and out of the norm for people who named their first son. This was God's plan. God's plan does not always align with man's, and when it came to salvation for mankind, God was in charge and Zacharias and Elisabeth were complying with His desires.
