Luke the physician wrote how God gave Zacharias and Elisabeth as Son, “And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. And they said unto her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marveled all”, and in chapter one and verse sixty-four Luke shared how Zacharias', “mouth was opened immediately where we read:
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised God.
The verse reads, “And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, ...” Luke began with the words, “and his mouth” or “and Zacharias' orifice in his face used for breathing, eating and speech” “was opened immediately” which means “was opened up straightway and forthwith”, “and his tongue loosed” or “and Zacharias' tongue within his mouth was set free”. Luke shared how Zacharias' “mouth” and “tongue” were “opened and set free” “immediately” after he declared his son's name to be “John”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and he spoke, and praised God.” Luke continued with the words, “and he spoke” which means “and Zacharias uttered a voice, emitted a sound and articulated words”, “and praised God” or “and gave glory, praise, blessings and consecration to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared the first words spoken by Zacharias after his “mouth” was open and his “tongue” was “set free” were to “give glory and praise” to “God”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see the fulfillment of “Gabriel's” words as Zacharias was able to “speak” again after he wrote to the people circumcising his son that his son's name is “John”. Zacharias began to speak again, and his first words were to give “glory” to God. Zacharias experienced a miracle because he was able to have a son at his old age, and now he was “speaking” after having been “mute” for at least nine months. God is in the miracle working business, and when it came to the “salvation” of mankind, not only would the birth and naming of “John” be miracle events, but also the preparation for His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world was at hand. Let all who read these words consider the wonder working power of God Almighty in sending His Son Jesus to this world.
Next time Luke shares how, “fear came on all that dwelt round about them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
