Luke the physician wrote how, “there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word”, and in chapter two and verse thirty of his book Luke shared how Simeon says, “my eyes have seen your salvation” where we read:
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
The verse reads, “For my eyes have seen ...” Luke began with the words, “for my eyes” or “because, since and on account that Simeon's physical eyes used for seeing and perceiving” “have seen” which means “have perceived, observed, inspected and examined”. Luke shared how Simeon declared how his “eyes” had “observed and perceived” the following.
The verse continues, “... your salvation,” Luke added the words, “your salvation” which means “God's defense, achievement and hope of future salvation”. Luke shared how Simeon declared that he saw “God's” answer for “future” “salvation”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn what Simeon said as he held Jesus “up in his arms”. Not only did he “bless” God, but he perceived “God's answer” for the “salvation” of mankind. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with every one of them who “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. Simeon saw God's “salvation”, and all those who seek Him today shall perceive Him as well.
Next time Luke shares how Simeon continues by saying, “which you have prepared”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
