A Savior which is Christ the Lord - Luke 2:11

Luke the physician wrote how Mary delivered her firstborn son and afterward, “there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of his book Luke shares how the angel said, “unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior” where we read:

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

The verse reads,For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, ... Luke began with the words, “for unto you” or “because, since and on account that to the shepherds” “is born this day” which means “was birthed and delivered on that very day” “in the city of David” or “within the dwelling place, abode and habitation of King David of Israel whose name means blessed” “a Savior” which means “a deliverer and preserver”. Luke shared how the angel told the shepherds that a “deliverer” was birthed that day within “King David's” home city.

The verse goes on to say, “... which is Christ the Lord. Luke continued with the words, “which is Christ” which means “who is the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God” “the Lord” or “the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how the “Savior” who was born was the “Messiah” of Almighty God.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the message given to the shepherds by the angel sent by God. The “good news” presented to the shepherds was that the “Messiah” was born that “day” within the “city” and “dwelling place” of King “David”. God desired to save people from sin's penalty of death and their separation from God. God wanted to provide “forgiveness” and “everlasting life” to all who believe and trust that His Son Jesus is “Christ the Lord”. God's “good news” or “gospel” was now given unto men, the shepherds, and subsequently unto all who are reading these words. Let everyone who considers these things receive God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”

Next time Luke shares how the angel says, “you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
