John the apostle wrote how Jesus healed a man who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years, and he carried his bed as instructed by Jesus on the sabbath day. “The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day:it is not lawful for you to carry your bed. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up your bed, and walk. Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto you, Take up your bed, and walk? And he that was healed did not know who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place”, and in chapter five and verse fourteen of his book, John shared, “afterward Jesus found him in the temple” where we read:
Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, you are made whole:
sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you.
The verse reads, “Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, you are made whole:”. John began with the word, “afterward” or “later on or subsequently” “Jesus found him” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation came upon, discover and detected the man healed of the thirty-eight year infirmity” “in the temple” or “within the sacred worship place in Jerusalem”, “and said unto him” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to the man”, “Behold” or “lo, look and consider”, “you are made whole” which means “you, man healed of the thirty-eight year infirmity, are restored to health, sound in body and made well”. John shared how Jesus discovered the man healed of the infirmity within the “sacred worship place” in Jerusalem, and told him to “look”, he was made well and healed.
The verse goes on to say, “sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you.” John continued with the words, “sin no more” which means “err, make mistakes and do not miss the mark any longer”, “lest a worse thing” or “unless or except a more evil, aggravated and sorer mental or moral physical ailment” “come unto you” which means “happen to you, man healed of the infirmity”. John shared how Jesus warned the man who was healed not to “sin” again unless a “more evil and aggravated” ailment would fall upon him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we notice how Jesus not only “discovered” the man who was healed of the thirty-eight infirmity, but He warned Him as well. This man was not to “sin” again, and Jesus told him there would be a “worse thing” to come upon him if he did. God's desire is to “save” people from “sin”, and many people suffer because of their “sins”. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to bring His good news of “salvation”, but He also desires to rescue them from the consequences of “sin”. Those who yield their lives to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God, and they are to be “cleansed” from their errors and wrongs so they will not have to suffer the “eternal” effects of them any longer. Let all who read these words receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” and be free from “sins” and the consequences of them.
Next time see John shares how, “the man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
