The Saying Fulfilled - John 18:9

The apostle John wrote how Judas, received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek you? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. Then asked he them again, Whom seek you? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore you seek me, let these go their way”, and in chapter eighteen and verse nine of his book John shared, that the saying might be fulfilledwhere we read:

That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of them which you gave me have I lost none.

The verse reads,That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spoke, ... John began with the words, “That the saying” which means “so the utterance, declaration and proclamation” “might be fulfilled” or “could be rendered full, furnished, liberally supplied and completed”, “which he spoke” which means “that he, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed” according to the following. John shared how Jesus attempted to set His disciples free to “render full” His words spoken according to the following.

The verse continues, “... Of them which you gave me have I lost none.” John added the words, “Of them which you gave me” or “out of them, the disciples of Jesus, that you, Heavenly Father God, granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied me, Jesus” “have I lost none” which means “have I, Jesus, rendered useless, ruined and perished not a single one”. John shared how Jesus had “said” that “none” of His disciples were “rendered useless” and “ruined”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus “fulfilled” His words concerning His disciples. Jesus preserved His disciples even while He was being accosted by the crowd of soldiers, servants and officers. (See John 17:12) God loves people, and His desire is to “save” people from their sins so they may have a personal relationship with Him. Everyone who yields their life to Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be preserved by Jesus to life everlasting. Those who are wise will submit to Jesus and come under His divine protection forever.

Next time we see John shares how,Simon Peter having a sword drew it, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
