A Woman Pained to be Delivered Revelation 12:2

John the apostle wrote, “ And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:”, and in chapter twelve and verse two of Revelation John wrote how the woman was, “pained to be delivered” where we read:

And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

The verse reads, And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, ... John began with the words, “and she being with child” which means “and the woman who was pregnant or had a baby in her womb or belly” “cried” or “spoke in a loud voice, vociferated, screamed and prayed”, “travailing in birth” or “feeling the pains of child birth”. John saw the “woman” was pregnant and “feeling the pains of childbirth”.

The verse continues, “... and pained to be delivered. John added the words, “and pained” which means “vexed with grievous pains of torment, tortured, harassed and distressed” “to be delivered” or “to bring forth, bear and produce a child”. John saw the “woman” “vexed with grievous pains to torment” as she was “delivering” her baby.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we might imagine the birthing process and the difficulties which are usually associated with it. This woman, which represents Israel, was ready to deliver her baby as she was actually in “labor” as John observed. We shall learn what this means as we continue, but for now, let us be assured that God Almighty had a plan for this “woman” and her “childbirth” even as He has a plan of “salvation” offered to every person through a relationship with His Son Jesus. God oversees all things, and even as we consider this pregnant woman and her “pain to be delivered”, let us align with God's plan to “seek and to save” each and every person who is “pained” with the troubles in this life.

Next time John shares how, there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
