When the Dragon is Cast Down Revelation 12:13

John the apostle wrote, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time”, and in chapter twelve and verse thirteen of Revelation John shared how the “when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth” where we read:

And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth,
he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

The verse reads, And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, John began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the present time and moment” “the dragon” or “the serpent-like creature which was Satan or the devil” “saw that he was cast unto” which means “perceived, notice, discerned and discovered he was thrown down, scattered and poured out toward” “the earth” or “the arable land, country, territory or region”. John began to share what the “devil” did at the time he was “thrown out” of heaven toward the earth.

The verse goes on to say, “he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. John continued with the words, “he persecuted” which means “the dragon or devil put to flight, made to flee, drove away and harassed” “the woman” or “the female John saw earlier which represents Israel” “which brought forth” or “who birthed, bore and produced” “the man child” which refers to “the male child which was Jesus”. John saw how “the devil” “harassed” Israel who had been used by God to produce the Messiah Jesus.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see a demonstration of “the devil's” anger. As soon as he landed upon the earth, he went after Israel. Israel was used by God to bring forth the “Messiah Jesus” who would save the world from sin, and “Satan” did not want this to happen. If “the devil” was able to destroy Israel, he would defeat the nation through whom the Messiah was to come. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and “the devil” is constantly attacking any possibility of that occurring. “The devil” afflicts people personally today as he shall Israel, and his purpose and plan is to keep them from receiving Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. May all who read these words know the significance of “the devil” attacking Israel and themselves and perceive how important it is to “yield to God” today.

Next time John shares how, “to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
