The Beast that Ascends Out of the Bottomless Pit Revelation 11:7

As John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to write about what happened when Jesus, “had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth angels” blew their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John continued,And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.” In chapter eleven and verse seven of Revelation John shared about “the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit” where we read:

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

The verse reads, And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, ... John began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “they shall have finished” or “the two witnesses have completed, ended, closed, fulfilled and executed” “their testimony” which refers to “the witness and prophesy of the two witnesses”, “the beast” which means “the wild, bestial, savage and ferocious one” “that ascends” or “who rises and springs up” “out of the bottomless pit” which means “away from the unbounded abyss with immeasurable depth” “shall make war” or “will produce, construct, form, make ready and prepare a fight, battle, dispute, strife and quarrel” “against them” which means “in opposition to the two witnesses”. John was given a time-line for the “two witnesses” to share, and as soon as their “testimony time” was complete, “the beast from the bottomless pit” will arise against them in “battle”.

The verse goes on to say, “...and shall overcome them, and kill them. John continued with the words, “and shall overcome them” which means “and will defeat, conquer, carry off the victory and be victorious over the two witnesses”, “and kill them” or “and destroy, extinguish, abolish and inflict moral death upon the two witnesses”. John was told how this “beast” would not only “overcome” the “two witnesses” but also “extinguish and destroy” them.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how God lifted His protecting hand from His “two witnesses” only after their “testimony” was complete. God has control over all these events, people and beings, and they all had time-lines and powers which they could implement. God desires for every person to receive His Son Jesus Christ as their “Savior and Lord”, and if they accept Jesus, they shall be “saved”, but if they refuse Him, they only have till their last breath before the “beast” of time and eternity shall overcome and defeat them.

Next time John shares how the bodies of the two witnesses, shall lie in the street of the great city so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
