Two Olive Trees and Candlesticks Revelation 11:4

As John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals Jesus removed from the “scroll”, the seven angels seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets” He continued by sharing how, “The first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth angels” blew their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John continued, “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open … And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, you must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings. And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.” In chapter eleven and verse four of Revelation John shared how “these are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks” where we read:

These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

The verse reads, These are the two olive trees, ... John began with the words, “these are” which means “the two witnesses are” “the two olive trees” or “the twain olive trees with fruit”. John was told how these “two witnesses” were as “two olive trees”.

The verse continues, “... and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. John added the words, “and the two candlesticks” which means “these two witnesses were as two candelabrum or lamp-stands” “standing” or “set, put, fixed and established” “before” which means “in front of and in the presence of” “the God” or “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “of the earth” which refers to the “arable land, country, territory and region”. John was informed that these “two witnesses” were like “two lamp-stands” which were in the presence of God who governs over the “earth”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how these “two witnesses” were identified as “two olive trees and two candelabrum”. The “olive tree” was the source for the “olive oil” that kept the “lamp-stand” lit in God's tabernacle, and both of these men represented the “Holy Spirit” and His flowing message of the gospel. God desires for the people of the world to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, and the message of God's gospel is promoted through His word, the Holy Spirit and His messengers today. May all who read these words yield to God's message of the gospel and receive Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” today.

Next time John shares more about these witnesses as he declares, “if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
