Voices from Heaven Revelation 14:2

John the apostle wrote concerning the “antichrist” and the “false prophet”, and he described how, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. In chapter fourteen and verse two of Revelation John, “heard” “voices from heaven” where we read:

And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters,
and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:

The verse reads, “And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, ... John began with the words, “And I heard” which means “and John was given and granted the faculty of hearing, understanding and perceiving” “a voice” or “a sound or tone of uttered words and speech” “from heaven” which means “out of the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “as the voice” or “like unto or similar to the tone or sound” “of many waters” which refers to “like abundant and huge running waters like in rivers, fountains or pools”. John listened as he “heard” a loud and boisterous “voice” that sounded like “rushing waters”.

The verse continues, “... and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps. John added the words, “and as the voice” which means “and like unto or similar to the tone or sound” “of a great thunder” or “like loud thunder in the sky”: “and I heard” which means “and John was given and granted the faculty of hearing, understanding and perceiving” “the voice” or “the tone or sound” “of harpers” which refers to “ones who play the harp and accompanies it with their voices” “harping” which means “playing upon a harp” “with their harps” or “with their stringed instruments or lyres which were used to give praises to God and are sung in heaven”. John was given the capacity to “hear” people playing their “harps” in the heavenly realm.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we can imagine his entrancement at this visual and audible scene. Not only did John see the “Lamb – Jesus”, the “one hundred and forty four thousand” people with God's seal in their “foreheads”, but also heard “loud voices” and “harpers” playing their lyres before God. What a glorious incident this must have been for John, and this demonstrates how God desires for everyone to enjoy His Heaven through a relationship with His Son Jesus. When a person receives Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, the sights and sounds reserved for them are unmatched in this present world. May all who read these words “yield” to God and prepare for the most glorious “sights and sounds” the world has never known.

Next time John heard , sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
