A House Divided Against Itself - Mark 3:25

Mark wrote how, “the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casts he out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-five of his book, Mark shares what happens, “if a house be divided against itself” where we read:

And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

The verse reads, “And if a house be divided against itself, ... Mark began with the words, “and if a house” or “and whether a dwelling place, habitation or residence” “be divided” or “is separated in parts and split into factions” “against itself” which means “in opposition to and contrary to it's own self”. Mark shared how Jesus included “residences and households” that are “divided against” themselves as another entity opposed to themselves.

The verse goes on to say, “... that house cannot stand. Mark continued with the words “that house” which means “dwelling place, habitation or residence“cannot stand” or “is unable to be fixed, established and kept intact”. Mark shared how Jesus declared that a “divided house” is unable to be “kept intact”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how important unity within a home was to Jesus. Both “kingdoms” and “houses” must be kept in agreement, otherwise they are unable to be “kept intact”. God desires for people to be unified with Him through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will realize the most important relationship they will every have is with Him. “Kingdoms” and “houses” may be divided and they shall not last, but those who align with Jesus Christ shall be united with God forever and ever.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
