Her Blood Dried Up - Mark 5:29

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-nine our of his book, Mark writes how, “straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up” where we read:

And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up;

and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

The verse reads, “And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; Mark began with the words, “and straightway” or “and immediately and forthwith” “the fountain” which means “the spring, source or supply” “of her blood” or “pertaining to the woman's blood” “was dried up” which means “was withered, shriveled and pined away”. Mark shared how “right away” the woman's “flowing of blood” stopped.

The verse goes on to say, and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.” Mark added the words, “and she felt” which means “and the woman knew, perceived, understood and was aware” “in her body” or “within the woman's physical body” “that she was healed” which means “that the woman was cured, made whole and restored” “of that plague” or “from that scourge, calamity and misfortune”. Mark shared how the woman “perceived” that she was “made whole” and “cured” of the “disease” that made her bleed.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we discover how this woman was “healed” of her blood flowing disease. She knew immediately there was a change in her body, and because she felt sick for “twelve years”, the change in her body was easily noticeable. The power of Jesus was demonstrated in this woman even though He did not initiate the healing. By faith this woman determined to “touch Jesus' garment”, and when she purposed to “touch” Him, regardless of how man people were “pressing against” Him, she knew she would be made whole. God wants people to come to Him through His Son Jesus, and He is able to meet their “physical and spiritual” needs as well as provide them with everlasting life.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus asks, “who touched my clothes?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
