Don't Send Us Out of the Country - Mark 5:10

Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes, And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains. Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshiped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the most high God? I adjure you by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many”, and in chapter five and verse ten of his book, Mark shares how Jesus said, “besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country” where we read:

And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

The verse reads,And he besought him much that he would not send them away …” Mark began with the words, “and he besought him much” or “and the man with the unclean spirits named Legion begged, entreated and prayed of Jesus to a great degree” “that he would not send” or “that Jesus would not dismiss and make depart” “them away” which means “the unclean spirits apart and separated”. Mark shared how the “unclean spirits named Legion” within the man begged Jesus not to make them “depart”.

The verse goes on to say, “... out of the country.” Mark continued with the words, “out of the country” which means “without the region, country, territory or surrounding village”. Mark shared how the “unclean spirits” did not want Jesus to send them out of the “country” in which they dwelt.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how these “unclean spirits” knew Jesus had the power to send them wherever He desired. They had no choice other than to “beg” Him not to send them “away”. Let it be known that Jesus Christ is more powerful than all the evil spirits in the world, and when He gives command, they must leave. God's desire is to free people from the influence of the “evil ones” and remove the sin from their lives that they may be able to live everlastingly with Him.

Next time Mark shares how, “there was there near unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
