What is the Kingdom of God Like? - Mark 4:30

Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “ So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground. And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knows not how. For the earth brings forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest is come”, and in chapter four and verse thirty of his book, Mark shares how Jesus asked, “whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God?” where we read:

And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God?

or with what comparison shall we compare it?

The verse reads, “And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God?” Mark began with the words, “and he said” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “whereunto” which means “what” “shall we liken” which means “shall we compare” “the kingdom” or “the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “of God” or “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”? Mark shared how Jesus rhetorically asked to what He could “compare” the Kingdom of God.

The verse goes on to say, or with what comparison shall we compare it?” Mark continued with the words, “or with what comparison” or “with what one thing, likeness or similitude” “shall we compare it” or “will we throw alongside the Kingdom of God”? Mark shared how Jesus wondered what he example He could use to “compare” with the “Kingdom of God”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus desired to find an illustration or example to which He could “compare” “God's Kingdom”. It wasn't as though He could not find one, but He rather chose carefully the example He would use to communicate to His listeners about the “Kingdom of God”. God loves people, and His desire is to save every person from their “sins” through His Son Jesus. Those who yield their lives to Jesus know the greatness of God's Kingdom and the illustrations of Jesus will make sense. Those who refuse Him find themselves confused and only wondering, “What does He mean by that?”

Next time Mark shares how Jesus tells how the “Kingdom of God”, “is like a grain of mustard seed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
