Jesus in a Ship Again - Mark 4:36

Mark wrote, “the same day, when the even was come, he said unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side”, and in chapter four and verse thirty-six of his book, Mark shares how Jesus and His disciples were in a, “ship” again where we read:

And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship.

And there were also with him other little ships.

The verse reads, “And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship.” Mark began with the words, “and when they had sent away” or “and at the time and moment Jesus and His disciples instructed to depart and leave” “the multitude” which means “the crowd around them”, “they took him” or “and the disciples accepted and received Jesus” “even as he was in the ship” which means “as Jesus was in the sailing vessel or boat”. Mark shared how Jesus and the disciples “sent away” the crowds and then entered into the “boat” that was nearby.

The verse continues, And there were also with him other little ships.” Mark added the words, “and there were also with him” which means “and along with Jesus and the boat He was in were” “other little ships” or “more little boats or sailing vessels”. Mark shared how other “little boats” joined alongside the boat Jesus and His disciples were in.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we get a picture of this next phase of Jesus' ministry. When the “multitude” was sent away by Jesus and His disciples, they entered into another little boat upon the sea of Galilee. Jesus ministered and then departed over and over again, and because His intention was to share the gospel of God everywhere He went, there were times He resorted to “boat rides” to move to another area. Jesus purposed for He and His disciples to “depart to the other side” of the sea, and when we understand this too is part of His “salvation” plan, those who are wise will yield themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark shares how, “there arose a great storm of wind”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
