The Multitudes Come Together Again - Mark 3:20

Mark wrote how Jesus, “went up into a mountain, and called unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils. And Simon he surnamed Peter. And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder. And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite. And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house”, and in chapter three and verse twenty of his book, Mark shares how “the multitude came together again” where we read:

And the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

The verse reads, “And the multitude came together again, ... Mark began with the words, “and the multitude” or “and the massive crowd of people” “came together again” or “assembled and gathered together yet another time”. Mark shared how the “crowd of people” assembled again at the house where Jesus and His disciples entered in.

The verse continues, “... so that they could not so much as eat bread.” Mark added the words “so that they could not” which means “insomuch, then and therefore that Jesus and His were unable” “so much as eat bread” which means “to consume and devour any food composed of flour mixed with water and baked”. Mark shared how the crowds were so large that Jesus and His disciples were unable to “eat” any food.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see what a massive impact Jesus was making among the people. He and His disciples were so busy with the people that they were unable to eat. Jesus' ministry was this way because people were constantly in need. God sent His Son Jesus to minister to people, and when a person yields their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, there will be times when serving others will cost one to not to have enough time just to eat some bread.

Next time Mark shares when Jesus' “friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
