He Has an Unclean Spirit - Mark 3:30

Mark wrote how, “the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casts he out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation”, and in chapter three and verse thirty of his book, Mark refers to how the scribes said of Jesus, “he has an unclean spirit” where we read:

Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.

The verse reads, “Because they said, ... Mark began with the word, “because” or “since and on account that” “they said” or “the scribes uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Mark referred to the way the “scribes” said the following.

The verse continues, “... He has an unclean spirit.” Mark added the words “he has an unclean” which means “Jesus owns, possesses and holds not cleansed, impure and morally lewd and demonic” “spirit” or “simple essence, devoid of all or at least all grosser matter, and possessed of the power of knowing, desiring, deciding, and acting”. Mark shared how the “scribes” declared that Jesus was possessed by an “evil, impure and unclean“spirit”.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see the reason Jesus spoke concerning “blasphemy against the Holy Ghost”. The “scribes” were wrong in their assessment of Jesus being possessed by “demons”, and this was “blasphemy” which needed to be addressed and corrected. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every one them through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will yield to Him, and those who do not submit will have committed “blasphemy against the Holy Ghost” which is the unpardonable sin that results in separation from God for all eternity.

Next time Mark shares how, “there came then his brethren and his mother,”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
