A Woman with an Issue of Blood - Mark 5:25

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-five our of his book, Mark writes about, “a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years” where we read:

And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

The verse reads, “And a certain woman, ... Mark began with the words, “and a certain woman” or “and a particular female human being”. Mark shared how there was a “particular” “woman” who was also among the crowd that were pressing against and “following Jesus” and “Jairus”.

The verse goes on to say, “... which had an issue of blood twelve years,” Mark continued with the words, “which had an issue of blood” which means “who had a flowing issue or flux of blood” “twelve years” or “for twelve long years”. Mark referred to this particular “woman” who had a “flowing of blood” coming from her body for twelve long years.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we note that Jesus was on His way to “Jairus' house” to see about his daughter who was dying. Along the way, a large crowd of people were not only “following Him”, but also “pressing against” Him as they walked along. This woman is noted by Mark for a special reason, and we shall see how Jesus ministers to her. Let “Jairus' daughter” and this woman be “examples” of the way Jesus is able to minister to many people at one time, and those who are wise will “believe and trust” in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” regardless of their timing, age or need.

Next time Mark shares how the woman, “suffered many things of many physicians”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
