Jesus Crosses the Sea Again - Mark 5:21

Mark wrote how, “he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but said unto him, Go home to your friends, and tell them how great things the Lord has done for you, and has had compassion on you. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-one of his book, Mark shares what happened, “when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side” where we read:

And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side,

much people gathered unto him: and he was near unto the sea.

The verse reads, “And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, ... Mark began with the word, “and when” or “and at the time and moment” “Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “was passed over again” or “had crossed, sailed and gone over the sea once again” “by ship” which means “by a sailing vessel or boat” “unto the other side” or “to the other side of the sea”. Mark shared how Jesus sailed again on the boat to the other side of the sea.

The verse continues, “... much people gathered unto him: and he was near unto the sea.” Mark added the words, “much people” which means “a large and massive group of people both male and female” “gathered unto him” or “assembled and collected together with Jesus”: “and he was near” which means “and Jesus was close by and in proximity” “unto the sea” or “to the large body of water known as the sea”. Mark shared how another large group of people “assembled” when Jesus reached the other side of the seashore, and Jesus stayed near the “shore” again as He encountered them.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus went back and forth across the sea. There were people who needed ministry everywhere Jesus went, and when they heard or saw that He was coming to a certain area, they “gathered” there. Jesus came to “save” people from their sins, and as we see Him work with them over and over again, let all who read these words be mindful that Jesus desires to help people not only with their temporary “physical needs”, but also with their eternal “spiritual needs” as well.

Next time Mark shares how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name” again, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
