A Man Named John - John 1:6

John the apostle wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not”, and in chapter one and verse six of his book, John shared about, “a man named John” where we read:

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

The verse reads, “There was a man sent from God, ... John began with the words, “there was a man or “there existed a male human being” “sent from God” which means “dispatched, dismissed and appointed by the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how “God” dispatched a particular “man”.

The verse continues, “... whose name was John.” John added the words, “whose name” which means “the same man's reckoning and calling” “was John” or “was John which means Jehovah is a gracious giver who was known as John the Baptist and was the son of Zacharias and Elisabeth and the forerunner of Christ”. John shared how this particular man's “name” was also “John” who became “John the Baptist”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how John the apostle shifted his attention toward the “forerunner” of Jesus, the Word, who was “John the Baptist”. John wanted those who read his words to know about “John the Baptist” and his role in God's redemption of mankind. John the apostle will have more to say about “John the Baptist” in our next verses, but for now let it suffice us to know God's plan of salvation was unfolding. Bringing forth God's Son Jesus, who is the light and life of the world, on the scene would mean forgiveness of sins and redemption for all who believe and trust in Him.

Next time John shares how John, “came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
