In Jesus was Life and Light - John 1:4

John the apostle wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made”, and in chapter one and verse four of his book, John shared in Jesus, “was life” where we read:

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

The verse reads, “In him was life;” John began with the words, “in him” or “within the Word which is Jesus” “was life” which means “the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God”. John shared how within the “Word” was the “fullness” of living which “belongs to God”.

The verse continues, “and the life was the light of men.” John continued with the words, “and the life” which means “and the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God” “was the light of men” or “truth and its knowledge together with the spiritual purity associated with it toward human beings whether male or female”. John shared how within the “life” which the “Word” provides is the “truth, knowledge and purity” to human beings.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how true “life” or “the absolute fullness of life” was in Jesus, and this “fullness of life” provides “truth, knowledge and spiritual purity” to mankind. God came to the world within “the Word” or Jesus Christ His Son, and everyone who puts their faith and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will receive the “light” and “fullness of life” that only He can provide. Those who are wise will carefully consider what John the apostle said about Jesus and yield their lives to One who provides “life and light” to men.
