Crying unto God Day and Night - Psalms 88:1

Psalms eighty eight begins with the heading, “[[A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.]]” which breaks down, “a Song” or “a lyrical or musical ode” “or Psalm” which means “a poem or melody set to notes” “for the sons of Korah” or “on behalf of the male offspring and descendants belonging to Korah whose name means bald and was from the tribe of Levi”, “to the chief Musician” which means “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “upon Mahalath Leannoth” or “the catchword in a song giving name to a tune which refers to being humbled, afflicted and exercised”, “Maschil” which means “a song or poem of contemplation” “of Heman” or “belonging to Heman whose name means faithful and was the name of an Israelite” “the Ezrahite” which means “the Ezrahite which means a native as arising out of the soil”, and in chapter eighty eight and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O LORD … I have cried day and night before you” where we read,

O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.

The verse begins, O LORD God of my salvation, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “O LORD God” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of my salvation” which means “pertaining to my, the Psalmist's, deliverance, rescue and liberator”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God was the Supreme God of his deliverance and liberation.

The verse goes on to say,I have cried day and night before you. The Psalmist continued with the words, “I have cried” or “I, the Psalmist, have shouted aloud, summoned and made an outcry” “day and night” which means “from sunset to sunrise and sunrise to sunset” “before you” or “in front and in the presence of you, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist shared how he cried aloud to God all through the “day and night”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist's deliverer and liberator was Jehovah God, and he called upon him throughout the day and night. God wants us to depend upon Him for the “salvation” He provided it through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we submit to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and hear us when we cry out to Him throughout the day and night.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Let my prayer come before you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
