God's Hand Upon the Sea - Psalms 89:25

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God said concerning David, “the enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse twenty-five of Psalms Ethan shared how Jehovah God said of David, “I will set his hand also in the sea” where we read,

I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

The verse begins, I will set his hand also in the sea, ... Ethan began with the words, “I will set his hand” or “I, Jehovah God, shall put, place, appoint and direct his, David's, power, means and direction” “also in the sea” which means “even so and indeed within the large body of water such as the Mediterranean, Red or Dead Seas”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God would extend David's rule over the “sea”.

The verse continues,... and his right hand in the rivers. Ethan added the words, “and his right hand” or “and his, David's, right hand of power, might and authority” “in the rivers” which means “within the streams or floods”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God would extend the power and rule of David over the flowing rivers and streams.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan shared the way Jehovah God continued to bless David with His presence and power. God would empower David to rule and have authority over the sea and rivers. Daniel the prophet wrote, “Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.” (See Daniel 2:20-22) In other words, God gives and takes power from people. God allowed David to rule because He had a personal relationship with him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we may have a relationship with Him as well. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and elevate us to positions according to His perfect will and plan.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God says of David, “He shall cry unto me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
