LORD Bow Down Your Ear - Psalms 86:1

Psalms chapter eighty six begins with the heading, “[[A Prayer of David.]]” which breaks down “a Prayer” or “an intercession, supplication which by implication is a hymn” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter eighty six and verse one of Psalms David said, “Bow down your ear, O LORD”, where we read,

Bow down your ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

The verse begins, Bow down your ear, O LORD, hear me: David began with the words, “Bow down your ear” or “extend, pitch, turn and incline your, Jehovah God's, ear for the function of hearing”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “hear me” or “answer, respond, testify and utter tunefully to me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God to bend His ear for hearing toward him and to respond to him.

The verse goes on to say,for I am poor and needy. David added the words, “for I am poor” or “because, since and on account that I, David, exist as afflicted, humble, wretched and lowly” “and needy” which means “and in want and subject to oppression and abuse”. David shared how he existed as afflicted, humble and subject to oppression.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David beckoned Jehovah God to listen to him. He declared himself to be afflicted, humble and subject to oppression and abuse. In other words, David needed God. Everyone is in need of our Creator for eternal salvation because we have all sinned, (See Romans 3:23), and God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “hear us” when we cry out to Him in need.

Next time David says, “preserve my soul; for I am holy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
