The LORD Shall Count - Psalms 87:6

In Psalms eighty seven the Psalmist said, “I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there. And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her” and in chapter eighty seven and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD shall count” where we read,

The LORD shall count, when he writes up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.

The verse begins, The LORD shall count, when he writes up the people, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall count” which means “will number, take account of and reckon”, “when he writes up” or “at the time and moment he, Jehovah God, records, enrolls, describes in writing and registers” “the people” which means “the human beings both male and female”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would take an account of “people” at the time and moment He makes record of them in Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say,... that this man was born there. Selah. The Psalmist continued with the words, “that this man” or “that the people within Jerusalem” “was born there” which means “was birthed and engendered in Jerusalem”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. The Psalmist wrote how the people whom Jehovah reckons will be accounted as citizens of the city of Jerusalem, and this idea is worthy of being meditated upon.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David referred to Jehovah God accounting for the people who were to be citizens of the city of Jerusalem. The idea is that God knows those who are within His Kingdom, and He makes record of them. God has extended to everyone an invitation to be a part of His Kingdom, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this could be. When we surrender our lives to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and record our citizenship in His Kingdom. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and Jesus Christ His Son for granting us access to be a part of the Kingdom of Almighty God.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the singers as the players on instruments shall be there”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
