In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “Surely his salvation is near them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land”, and in chapter eighty five and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist said, “mercy and truth are met together” where we read,
Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
The verse begins, “Mercy and truth are met together;” The Psalmist began with the word, “mercy” or “goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “and truth” which means “and firmness, sureness, reliability, stability and continuance” “are met together” or “exist as encountering, joining and meeting with each other”. The Psalmist shared how goodness, kindness, sureness and reliability encounter each other as Jehovah God abides within a country and land.
The verse continues, “righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” The Psalmist added the word, “righteousness” or “justice, rightness, victory and prosperity” “and peace” which means “and tranquility, calmness, contentment, soundness, welfare, health and completeness” “have kissed each other” or “have been put together, touched gently and fastened to one another like a kiss”. The Psalmist said justice and rightness were put together like a kiss with tranquility and calmness.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared more of the benefits that are provided to the people who revere Jehovah God. God shares His “mercy, truth, righteousness and peace” with anyone who will surrender their life to His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to experience the qualities and character of God described in the Psalmist's words.
Next time the Psalmist says, “truth shall spring out of the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
