In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God said, “Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse thirty-eight of Psalms Ethan said to Jehovah God, “you have cast off and abhorred” where we read,
But you have cast off and abhorred, you have been wroth with your anointed.
The verse begins, “But you have cast off and abhorred, ...” Ethan began with the words, “but you have cast off” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover you, Jehovah God, have rejected, spurned and put aside” “and abhorred” which means “and rejected, despised and refused” the following. Ethan began to share how God spurned and rejected the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... you have been wroth with your anointed.” Ethan continued with the words, “you have been wroth” or “you, Jehovah God, have passed over, been carried away and marched over and been alienated” “with your anointed” which means “toward your, Jehovah God's, consecrated and set apart one”. Ethan shared how he felt like Jehovah God passed over and rejected His set apart and consecrated one.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Ethan knew Jehovah God firmly established David's royal rule forever, however, it appeared that God rejected and despised His people at the current time. Ethan believed God was angry with them, and it was difficult for him to understand why they were suffering like they were. God is consistent with people, and He does not change. Though our perception of His care and concern may vary, He keeps His word. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be allowed to enjoy His presence. This commitment to us shall last for all eternity regardless of whether we feel like God has “cast off”, “abhorred” and “been wroth” with us.
Next time Ethan the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have made void the covenant of your servant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
