The Glory of Their Strength - Psalms 89:17

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said, “Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of your countenance. In your name shall they rejoice all the day: and in your righteousness shall they be exalted”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse seventeen of Psalms Ethan said to Jehovah God, “you are the glory of their strength ” where we read,

For you are the glory of their strength: and in your favor our horn shall be exalted.

The verse begins, For you are the glory of their strength: Ethan began with the words, “for you are the glory” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, exist as the the beauty, splendor, rank, renown and honor” “of their strength” which means “belonging to their, the people who know the joyful sound's, power, might and ability”. Ethan said Jehovah God was the splendor and honor of the people who know the joyful sound's power and might.

The verse continues, and in your favor our horn shall be exalted. Ethan added the words, “and in your favor” or “and within your, Jehovah God's, pleasure, delight, goodwill and acceptance” “our horn shall be exalted” which means “our, Ethan and the people who know the joyful sound's, horn of strength will be lifted up, made lofty and extolled”. Ethan said he and the people who hear the joyful sound would be extended the pleasure and acceptance of Jehovah God and thereby their power and might would be lifted up.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Ethan knew having the honor and renown of Jehovah God would put Him and the people who knew the joyful sound in God's “favor” and acceptance. John the apostle wrote, “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created” (See Revelation 4:11), and when we trust in, rely upon and cling to God's Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and extend His “favor” o us tso our testimony and witness within the world will be lifted up and exalted among all people.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist says, “the LORD is our defense”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
