In Psalms chapter eighty six David said, “I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify your name for evermore. For great is your mercy toward me: and you have delivered my soul from the lowest hell”, and in chapter eighty six and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “O God, the proud are risen against me” where we read,
O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set you before them.
The verse begins, “O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul;” David began with the words, “O God” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “the proud” which means “the arrogant, insolent and presumptuous” “are risen against me” or “exist as standing up, becoming powerful and come on the scene in opposition toward me, David”, “and the assemblies of violent men” which means “and the gatherings or congregations pertaining to awe-inspiring, terror-striking, ruthless and mighty people both male and female” “have sought after my soul” or “have required, desired, exacted and requested my, David's, inner man, mind, heart, living being and seat of emotions and passions”. David told the Divine judge Jehovah God how people who were arrogant and presumptuous rose up in opposition to him, and gatherings of ruthless and terror-striking people desired to possess his inner man, mind and will.
The verse continues, “and have not set you before them.” David added the words, “and have not set you” or “and have in no manner or way placed, set, appointed, ordained, established and constituted you, Divine judge Jehovah God” “before them” which means “in front and in the presence of them, the people who are proud”. David said the “proud” people who rose up against him did not establish themselves in the presence of Jehovah God.
When we think through words in this verse, we see how David told God about the arrogant people who rose up in opposition to him, and those who were ruthless and terror-striking gathered themselves together and joined their resistance to him. Their problem was that they had not established themselves in the presence of Almighty Jehovah God. The same occurs today as people resist Jehovah God's offer of His Son Jesus to save them from their sins. God sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be established in His presence forever and ever. Those who resist Him shall contend with God, and woe be to those who have not established themselves before Him.
Next time David says, “You, O Lord , are a God full of compassion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
