The Right Hand of Adversaries - Psalms 89:42

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. You have broken down all his hedges; you have brought his strong holds to ruin. All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbors”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse forty-two of Psalms Ethan said to Jehovah God, “you have set up the right hand of his adversaries” where we read,

You have set up the right hand of his adversaries; you have made all his enemies to rejoice.

The verse begins, You have set up the right hand of his adversaries; Ethan began with the words, “you have set up” or “You, Jehovah God, have raised, exalted and uplifted” “the right hand” which means “the power, might and authority” “of his adversaries” or “belonging to his, David's, distressing foes, enemies or oppressors”. Ethan said Jehovah God exalted the power and authority of David's enemies and foes.

The verse goes on to say,you have made all his enemies to rejoice. Ethan continued with the words, “you have made all his enemies” or “you, Jehovah God, have caused each, every, the whole and everyone of his, David's, hating foes and adversaries” “to rejoice” which means “to be glad, arrogantly exulted and gleeful”. Ethan said Jehovah God caused every one of David's hating foes to be arrogantly exulted and filled with glee.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan shared how Jehovah God caused the hating foes of David not only to be powerful and strong, but they also to be filled with glee over their exaltation. This is the personal view of Ethan as he considered the conditions and circumstances he and the people of Israel were encountering. We may have felt like this at times, and when this happens, we should always remember God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins because He loves us. He invites us to receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with our hating foes and any circumstances that make us wonder if He is the reason they are exalted and become joyful.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have also turned the edge of his sword”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
