God Visiting Transgression - Psalms 89:32

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God began to say concerning David, “If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments. If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse thirty-two of Psalms Ethan shared how Jehovah God continued to say of David's children, “then will I visit their transgression with the rod” where we read,

Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

The verse begins, Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, ... Ethan began with the words, “then will I visit” or “at that time shall I, Jehovah God, attend to, reckon, appoint and punish” “their transgression” which means “their, the offspring of David's, rebellion, revolt and guilt” “with the rod” or “by the use of the staff, branch and scepter”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God would attend to and punish the offspring of David should they “forsake” His “law”, “not walk in His judgments, break His statues and not keep His commandments”.

The verse goes on to say,... and their iniquity with stripes. Ethan continued with the words, “and their iniquity” or “and their, the offspring of David's, perversities, depravities, guilts and mischiefs” “with stripes” which means “by the use of strokes, plagues, diseases and marks”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God said He would attend to the perversities and mischiefs of David's offspring by the use of strokes and plagues.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Ethan shared the way Jehovah God said He would attend to the errors and wrongs of David's offspring by the use of plagues, diseases and marks. The idea is that He loves David's descendants. God gives correction to His children because He loves them. (See Proverbs 3:12 and Hebrews 12:6) He desires to have all of us be His children through His Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins that separated us from Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us His “corrected” children throughout eternity. (See John 1:12)

Next time Ethan the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God continues to say of David's children, “nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
