In Psalms chapter eighty six David said, “Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto you daily. Rejoice the soul of your servant: for unto you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul”, and in chapter eighty six and verse five of Psalms David said, “For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive”, where we read,
For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive;
and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon you.
The verse begins, “For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive;” David began with the words, “For you, Lord” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, Adonay or reverent master” “are good” which means “exist as pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable in estimation”, “and ready to forgive” or “and placable and prepared to pardon”. David stated that Adonay existed as pleasant and agreeable, and He stands prepared to mitigate errors and wrongs.
The verse goes on to say, “and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon you.” David continued with the words, “and plenteous in mercy” or “and abundant in goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “unto all them” which means “toward each, every, the whole and everyone of the people both male and female” “that call upon you” or “who summon, shout aloud and accost you, Divine judge Jehovah God who is the reverent master”. David declared Jehovah God to be abundant and overflowing in His goodness, kindness and faithfulness toward people who summon Him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David knew God would share His forgiveness and mercy toward anyone who will humble themselves and cry out to Him. God provided His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all of us, and when we yield to Him, ask Him to forgive us and turn from our wicked ways, He will pour out His forgiveness upon us and allow His abundant “mercy” to flow toward us. God loves us, and we all have an opportunity to “call upon” Him. Let us “cry out” to God and give Him glory, honor and praise for His provision of His Son Jesus through whom we shall receive everlasting life with Him in Heaven.
Next time David says, “Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
