Breaking Rahab in Pieces - Psalms 89:10

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “You rule the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, you still them”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse ten of Psalms Ethan said, “you have broken Rahab in pieces” where we read,

You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain;

you have scattered your enemies with your strong arm.

The verse begins, You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; Ethan began with the words, “You have broken Rahab” or “you, Jehovah God, have crushed, made contrite and shattered Rahab whose name means breadth and was an emblematic name of Egypt” “in pieces” which means “in bits, sections and slices”, “as one that is slain” or “in likeness unto a person who is fatally wounded, defiled and killed”. Ethan said Jehovah God shattered “Rahab” into tiny bits like unto a person that has been fatally wounded.

The verse goes on to say,you have scattered your enemies with your strong arm. Ethan continued with the words, “you have scattered your enemies” or “you, Jehovah God, have disperse, dispelled and dissipated your, Jehovah God's, hating foes and adversaries” “with your strong arm” which means “by the use of your, Jehovah God's, might, strength and bold power”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God dispersed his hating foes with His power and might.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan spoke of Jehovah God crushing and shattering “Rahab” or “Egypt” into bits and slices, and He dispersed His hating adversaries with His power and might. No foe who rises up against Jehovah God shall be successful, and He will contend with those who oppose His people. God loves everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fight against those who rise up against us.

Next time Psalmist says, “the heavens are yours, the earth also”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
