In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours: as for the world and the fullness thereof, you have founded them”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse twelve of Psalms Ethan said, “the north and the south you have created them” where we read,
The north and the south you have created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in your name.
The verse begins, “The north and the south you have created them:” Ethan began with the words, “The north” or “the northward direction” “and the south” which means “and the southward direction” “you have created them” or “you, Jehovah God, have shaped, fashioned and formed them, the north and the south”. Ethan wrote about Jehovah God forming and fashioning the “northward and southward” directions.
The verse goes on to say, “Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in your name.” The Psalmist continued with the word, “Tabor” whose name means “mound” and was “a mountain in the plain of Esdraelon rising abruptly and insulated except for a narrow ridge on the west connecting it to the hills of Nazareth” “and Hermon” which means “and Hermon whose name means a sanctuary and was a mountain on the northeastern border of Palestine and Lebanon and overlooking the border city of Dan” “shall rejoice” or “will overcome, shout for joy and give a ringing cry” “in your name” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory”. Ethan shared how the mountains of “Tabor” and “Hermon” will shout for joy over the fame, reputation and glory of Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Ethan highlighted the “northern and southern” directions which were formed and fashioned by Jehovah God. He also spoke of the mountain of “Tabor” which was located in lower Galilee, Northern Israel at the eastern end of the Jezreel Valley, eighteen kilometers (11 mi) west of the Sea of Galilee, and “Hermon” which was located in on the northeastern border of Palestine and Lebanon and overlooking the border city of Dan. These mountains would shout for joy over the fame, reputation and glory of Jehovah God. God rules over all His creation, and He desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind because those sins separated us from a relationship with our Creator. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to rejoice and shout for joy like the mountains and enjoy the “north and south” He has created.
Next time Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have a mighty arm”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
