Righteousness Goes Before Him - Psalms 85:13

In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said, “the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase”, and in chapter eighty five and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “righteousness shall go before him” where we read,

Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

The verse begins, Righteousness shall go before him; The Psalmist began with the words, “Righteousness shall go” or “justice, rightness, victory and prosperity will proceed, walk and traverse” “before him” which means “in front and in the presence of him, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said justice, rightness and prosperity would proceed the presence of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, and shall set us in the way of his steps. The Psalmist added the words, “and shall set us” or “and will set, place, appoint and establish us, the Psalmist and the people of Israel” “in the way” which means “within the journey, direction and manner” “of his steps” or “belonging to his, Jehovah God's, strokes, beat and footsteps”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would establish him and the people of Israel within the manner of His footsteps.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist knew Jehovah God's justice, victory and prosperity preceded Him, and He would establish him and the people of Israel in the direction of His footsteps. In other words, God's rightness and guidance would be with them all the days of their lives. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us by His Holy Spirit into all truth so that we follow in His ways forever. (See John 16:13)

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “Bow down your ear, O LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
