The Passing By Spoilers - Psalms 89:41

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. You have broken down all his hedges; you have brought his strong holds to ruin”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse forty-one of Psalms Ethan said to Jehovah God, “all that pass by the way spoil him” where we read,

All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbors.

The verse begins, All that pass by the way spoil him: Ethan began with the words, “all that pass by the way” or “each, every, the whole and everyone who crosses, traverses and travels beside the roadside” “spoil him” which means “plunder and rifle him, David”. Ethan said everyone who travels by the roadside where David is plunder and rifle him.

The verse continues,he is a reproach to his neighbors. Ethan added the words, “he is a reproach” or “he, David, exists as one scorned, shamed and disgraced” “to his neighbors” which means “to his, David's, fellow citizens, inhabitants and residents”. Ethan said David became a shame and disgrace to his nearby residents and fellow-citizens.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Ethan said David was plundered by everyone who traveled beside him, and he became shamed and disgraced by his fellow-citizens. In other word, David was being ill-treated by all those around him. This is not always the case for us, but sometimes it can feel that way. God knows our circumstances and situations, and He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Let us believe and trust in Jesus to be our protector and defense even when others “spoil” us and believe we are shameful and disgraced in their sight.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have set up the right hand of his adversaries”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
