In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams” and his servants said, “tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation. The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if you will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. But if you show the dream, and the interpretation thereof, you shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore show me the dream, and the interpretation thereof. They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation of it. The king answered and said, I know of certainty that you would gain the time, because you see the thing is gone from me. But if you will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me the interpretation thereof”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse ten Daniel shared how the Chaldeans told King Nebuchadnezzar, “there is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter” where we read,
The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
The verse reads, “The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter:” Daniel began with the words, “the Chaldeans” which means “the clod breakers who were the astrologers or inhabitants of Chaldea who were living on the lower Euphrates and Tigris rivers and were consider the wisest in the land” “answered before the king” or “replied and responded in front and in the presence of the royal ruler and leader”, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “there is not a man upon the earth” or “there does not exist any male human being upon the dry land or earth as a planet” “that can show the king's matter” which means “who is able to reveal the royal ruler and leader's discourse or affair”. Daniel shared how the wise men of “Chaldea” responded to King Nebuchadnezzar by telling him no man exist who is able to reveal his “dream” to him.
The verse continues, “therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.” Daniel added the words, “therefore there is no king” which means “wherefore, then and on this account there does not exist a royal ruler or leader”, “lord” or “master, chief or captain”, “nor ruler” which means “no and not any one having authority or mastery”, “that asked such things” or “who requested, demanded or inquired into this type of word, utterance or command” “at any magician” which means “toward whatsoever prestidigitator or conjurer”, “or astrologer”or “nor enchanter or necromancer” “or Chaldean” which means “nor the clod breakers who were the astrologers or inhabitants of Chaldea who were living on the lower Euphrates and Tigris rivers and were consider the wisest in the land”. Daniel said the wise men of “Chaldea” told King Nebuchadnezzar that no royal ruler, master or one having authority requested what he was asking of their conjurers, enchanters or astrologers.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how the wise men of Chaldea responded to King Nebuchadnezzar again and told him there was not any person in the world that was able to reveal to him his dream, and for this reason, no other royal rulers, masters, ones in authority make such a requests of their conjurers, enchanters or astrologers. In other words, no one was able to answer King Nebuchadnezzar's demand. They were right, because the revelation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream and the interpretation of it was reserved for God alone. God will reveal it to Daniel, but He was in control. The same is true with God with us. When He knew we have sin in our lives and that sin leads to death, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross and be raised from the dead after three day for the sins of everyone. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and reveal to us whatever He desires by His Holy Spirit who will continually confirm that He is always in control.
Next time Daniel shares how the Chaldeans tell King Nebuchadnezzar, “it is a rare thing that the king requires”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
