In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he summoned magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream, and he, “said, I know of certainty that you would gain the time, because you see the thing is gone from me. But if you will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me the interpretation thereof. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse fourteen Daniel said, “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain” where we read,
And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain;
and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
The verse reads, “And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain;” Daniel began with the words, “and the decree went forth” or “and the law was issued and went out” “that the wise men” which means “that the learned and soothsaying male human beings” “should be slain” or “were to be killed”. Daniel shared how a law was issued that commanded every one of the learned men were to be killed.
The verse continues, “and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.” Daniel added the words, “and they sought Daniel” which means “and they searched and looked out for Daniel whose name means God is my judge” “and his fellows” or “and his, Daniel's, associates, companions, comrades and friends” “to be slain” which means “to exist as vanished, perished and killed”. Daniel said the officials searched for “Daniel and his companions” to destroy and kill them.
When we consider Daniel's words in this verse, we discover not only that there was a command for every one the “wise men of Babylon” to be eliminated, but that he and his companions were searched for to be destroyed as well. God's plans do not always go as we expect them, and when He sent His Son into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and to receive the protection of His Holy Spirit to give us direction regardless of the conditions that arise in our lives.
Next time Daniel said he, “answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
