Remember Me, O My God, for Good - Nehemiah 13:31

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-one of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said “remember me, O my God, for good” where we read,

And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits.

Remember me, O my God, for good.

The verse reads, And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits.” Nehemiah began with the words, “and for the wood offering” which means “and on behalf of the plank, stalk and timber sacrificial present and oblation”, “at the times appointed” or “and the experiences, occasions and events set and fixed”, “and for the firstfruits” which means “and on behalf of the first of the crops, fruit and grain that was gathered”. Nehemiah asked Jehovah God to remember him for cleansing the sacrificial timber oblation at the set and fixed occasions on behalf of the first of the crops, fruit and grain that was collected.

The verse goes on to say, Remember me, O my God, for good.” Nehemiah added the words, “remember me”  or “call to mind and bring to remembrance me, Nehemiah”, “O my God” which means “O my, Nehemiah's, Supreme Deity”, “for good” or “on behalf of pleasantness, agreeableness and excellence”. Nehemiah appealed to his Supreme Deity Jehovah God to bring him to remembrance on behalf of pleasantness and excellence.

When we think through Nehemiah's words in this verse, we see how his final prayer included the attention that he paid to cleansing the timber sacrifices for the first “crops, fruit and grain” when they were to occur. He wanted God to call him to mind for excellence because he followed God's ways. God knows when we make sacrifices and perform good works on behalf of Him and His Kingdom, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us as He continually brings to mind everything we have done on behalf of Him and His kingdom. (See 1 Corinthians 3:9-15; 2 Corinthians 5:9-11)

Next time we begin a new book, the book of Daniel, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
