Daniel Answers with Counsel and Wisdom - Daniel 2:14

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he summoned magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans to interpret, however, they were unable to reveal his dream and, “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse fourteen Daniel said he, “answered with counsel and wisdom” where we read,

Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard,

which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

The verse reads, “Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, ... Daniel began with the words, “then Daniel answered” or “at that time Daniel whose name means God is my judge replied and responded” “with counsel and wisdom” which means “by the use of absolute prudence, judgment, taste and command” “to Arioch” or “toward Arioch whose name means lion-like” “the captain of the king's guard” which means “the chief and master belonging to the royal ruler and leader's lifeguard or executioner”. Daniel shared how he responded with prudence and judgment toward “Arioch” who was the royal ruler Nebuchadnezzar's lifeguard.

The verse continues, “... which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:” Daniel added the words, “which was gone forth” which means “that left and was departed” “to slay the wise men” or “to kill the learned men and soothsayers” “of Babylon” which means “belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) which was the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates”. Daniel shared how “Arioch” was dispatched to depart and kill the learned men belonging to “Babylon”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how he responded with absolute prudence and judgment toward “Arioch” who was dispatched to kill and destroy every one of the learned men and soothsayers within “Babylon”. For a moment it appeared that God's plan for using “Daniel” was thwarted, however, God Almighty had a plan. God was to save “Daniel, his companions and every other wise man of Babylon”, and His plan is to save us as well. God loves people, and He desires a personal relationship with all of us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. When we have faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we have no need to be afraid even when it seems that everything and everyone is against us.

Next time Daniel asks, “why is the decree so hasty from the king?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
