In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate, and after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah, and Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam, ...”, and in chapter twelve and verse thirty-four of Nehemiah, Nehemiah added, “Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah and Jeremiah” where we read,
Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,
The verse reads, “Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, ...” Nehemiah began with the word, “Judah”whose name means “praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon”, “and Benjamin” or “and son of the right hand”, “and Shemaiah” whose name means “heard by Jehovah”, “and Jeremiah” or “whom Jehovah has appointed”. Nehemiah shared how “Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah” were also among the spiritual leaders who were set in place for the dedication of the barrier wall which surrounded Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah about four more of the spiritual leaders who were called upon for the dedication of the barrier wall. Men whose names mean, “praised, son of the right hand, heard by Jehovah and whom Jehovah has appointed” became part of the group who were assembled. This spectacular event was a celebration which honored Jehovah God who brought His people Israel back to their homeland, and in the same manner God wants us to be involved in His eternal Kingdom by receiving His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead three days later as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead and guide us by His Holy Spirit to the positions in which He wants us to serve Him forever.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “a certain of the priests' sons with trumpets”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
