In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he summoned magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream and, “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain. Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse fifteen Daniel asked, “why is the decree so hasty from the king? where we read,
He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king?
Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
The verse reads, “He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king?” Daniel began with the words, “he answered and said to Arioch” or “he, Daniel, replied, responded, uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked Arioch whose name means lion-like” “the king's captain” which means “the royal ruler and leader's chief, master, ruler and authority”, “why is the decree” or “for what reason and cause is the law, edict and command” “so hasty from the king” which means “so urgent, harsh and insolent”? Daniel shared how he responded to “Arioch” by asking for the reason that the command from King Nebuchadnezzar was so urgent and harsh.
The verse goes on to say, “Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.” Daniel continued with the words, “then Arioch” which means “at that time Arioch whose name means lion-like” “made the thing known” or “revealed the matter” “to Daniel” which means “to Daniel whose name means God is my judge”. Daniel shared how “Arioch” told him everything that happened.
When we meditate upon Daniel's words in this verse, we discover how he responded to “Arioch” by asking the reason for the urgent command from King Nebuchadnezzar. “Arioch” told him all that happened, and we shall see how Daniel replies to him in our next verse. For now let us be mindful that this was all God's plan for leading to His salvation from the penalty of death for our sins. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead three days later so all who put their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given His Holy Spirit who will help us understand that He has a plan, and He will always work it out.
Next time Daniel said he, “desired of the king that he would give him time”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
