In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.”, and in chapter thirteen and verse fourteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “remember me, O my God, concerning this” where we read,
Remember me, O my God, concerning this,
and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
The verse reads, “Remember me, O my God, concerning this, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “remember me”which means “call to mind, recall and bring to mind me, Nehemiah”, “O my God” or “O my, Nehemiah's, Supreme Deity”, “concerning this” which means “about and on account of this, the following acts”. Nehemiah shared prayed to the Supreme Deity Jehovah God to bring him to mind about the following acts.
The verse goes on to say, “... and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and wipe not out” or “and do not blot out, exterminate or obliterate” “my good deeds” which means “my, Nehemiah's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “that I have done” or “that I, Nehemiah, fashioned, accomplished and produced” “for the house of my God” which means “on behalf of the habitation, abode and dwelling place belonging to my, Nehemiah's, Supreme Deity”, “and for the offices thereof” or “and on behalf of the watches, posts and wards within the dwelling place of God”. Nehemiah asked Jehovah God not to blot out his kind acts that he produced on behalf of Jehovah God's dwelling place.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Nehemiah appealed to Jehovah God once again in prayer. He asked that God not forget everything “good” he did on behalf of His temple and for the positions within it. We may be assured that God did not fail to remember Nehemiah, and He certainly would not obliterate anything that he did. Paul the apostle wrote, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.” (See 2 Corinthians 5:10) God wants us to have a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and rose from the dead three days later, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so our acts and deeds will not only be acknowledged, but also rewarded by Him for all eternity.
Next time Nehemiah shares, “saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
