In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: and they sanctified holy things unto the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them unto the children of Aaron”, and in chapter thirteen and verse one of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how, “they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people” where we read,
On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
The verse reads, “On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people;” Nehemiah began with the words, “on that day” which means “and upon that particular sunrise to sunset” “they read in the book of Moses” or “they, the spiritual leaders of Israel, read within the missive, document and writing belonging to Moses whose name means drawn out and was the prophet and lawgiver as well as leader of the exodus” “in the audience” which means “within the gathering, assembly and multitude” “of the people” or “belonging to the human beings both male and female”. Nehemiah shared how the spiritual leaders read the words in the document and writing belonging to “Moses” within the congregation of the “people” of Israel.
The verse continues, “and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;” Nehemiah added the words, “and therein was found written” or “and within the book of Moses there was inscribed and engraved”, “that the Ammonite” which means “that people who were from Ammon whose name means tribal and were the descendants of Ammon and the inhabitants of the same” “and the Moabite” or “and the people of Moab whose name means from father or what father?” “should not come into the congregation of God” which means “were not to fall upon or enter into the assembly or gathering belonging to the Supreme Deity Jehovah” “for ever”or “even up to and as far as long duration, everlasting and perpetuity”. Nehemiah shared how the “book of Moses”declared that people from “Ammon and Moab” were not to enter into the assembly of Jehovah God unto perpetuity.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how the spiritual leaders began to read the words in the “book of Moses” before a great multitude of people, and they learned that the people from “Ammon and Moab”were never to enter into the assembly of Jehovah God. These people were great adversaries to the people of Israel, and God Himself kept them from being in His presence. God loves the people of Israel, and although all the world is invited to accept His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days as their “Savior and Lord”, not everyone will receive Him. (See Matthew 7:13-14) When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to keep us in His presence for all eternity so we will never be named among those who shall be separated from Him eternally. (See Matthew 7:23; 25:41; Luke 13:27)
Next time Nehemiah shares how this happened to “Ammon and Moab”, “because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
